Christy and Nick Harp Appear on Today Show

Christy Harp, world record holder for growing a giant pumpkin, appeared on the Today show with her husband Nick. You may recall that Christy rocked our own giant pumpkin contest at the end of September when she was joined by the rest of the Indiana Pumpkin Growers Association, and won with a 1,236 pound pumpkin. The following week, Christy and Nick returned home to Ohio and not only won the Ohio Valley Giant Pumpkin Growers weigh-off, but also the world record with a gargantuan 1,725 pound pumpkin.

Congratulations Christy- we’re thrilled that you, your husband, your amazing pumpkin and all of your hard work have received so much attention.

Christy Harp: 1,725 Pound Pumpkin Weighs-in for World Record

If you attended Hensler’s Giant Pumpkin weigh-off on September 27th, you’ll remember that Christy Harp, from Massilon, Ohio, was our grand champion with a 1,236 pound pumpkin. Like 18 other members of the Indiana Pumpkin Grower’s Association, Christy hauled in her giant pumpkin hoping for victory. That foggy morning turned into a splendid day, and the sun blazed brightly over the crowd watching the final weighing as she claimed the top prize.

There was rumor that Christy might have an even larger pumpkin back home in Ohio, but we had no idea how big it really was. On October 7th, she brought a massive pumpkin to the Ohio Valley Giant Pumpkin Growers weigh-off, and not only did she take the trophy for biggest pumpkin, she also broke the world record with a monster weight of 1,725 pounds.

I-Scream & Wheel Horse Weekend: October 17th & 18th

We’ll be serving up a spooky treat this weekend: our own homemade pumpkin ice cream. Made with pumpkin and real vanilla, it’s a silky smooth autumn treat you won’t want to miss.

We will also exhibit a collection of restored Wheel Horse lawn and garden tractors. These vintage tractors were very popular in the 1950’s and 60’s, and the Wheel Horse company’s headquarters was based in South Bend, IN.

All of our other fall activities are up and running. We still have a great selection of pumpkins and fall decor. Join us this weekend for a little I-Scream and enjoy “Fall- All Over the Place” here at Hensler’s!
