How We Grow Our Trees
Each summer we send a team of Hensler’s staff out into the tree fields to shape and contour our Christmas trees. The members of our team use a light touch to bring out the best shape and enhance the natural beauty of the trees.
This summer, we took a few videos of Joe hard at work using a long shearing knife and a little artistry to prepare our trees for Christmas Fest. As you’ll see in the video, it’s a lot of hard work but it’s time well spent once the families take the horse drawn wagon out to the field to select their Christmas tree.
Hensler Nursery entered the annual Indiana State Fair this year with two trees, a Fraser Fir and a White Pine. The 8′ White Pine, selected by Hensler’s forester, John Scheetz, was awarded a blue ribbon (1st place) in the pine category and awarded Grand Champion. The Fraser Fir received third place.

Visitors enjoyed horse-drawn carriage rides through the winding paths on our farm underneath a canopy of fall color.
The Starke County Community Choir performed to help celebrate the launch of the Lights of Remembrance campaign.
WKVI did a live broadcast in our wreath decorating building where they talked about the Lights of Remembrance campaign and interviewed Mrs. Claus about the activities we’re planning for this year’s Christmas Fest.
Mitch Markovitz signed artwork that he created for Hensler Nursery. His son, featured in the illustration as Hensler’s Face of Fall, was also there to help Mitch with the signing.
