Christy and Nick Harp Appear on Today Show

Christy Harp, world record holder for growing a giant pumpkin, appeared on the Today show with her husband Nick. You may recall that Christy rocked our own giant pumpkin contest at the end of September when she was joined by the rest of the Indiana Pumpkin Growers Association, and won with a 1,236 pound pumpkin. The following week, Christy and Nick returned home to Ohio and not only won the Ohio Valley Giant Pumpkin Growers weigh-off, but also the world record with a gargantuan 1,725 pound pumpkin.

Congratulations Christy- we’re thrilled that you, your husband, your amazing pumpkin and all of your hard work have received so much attention.

We Won Trophies at the 2009 Blueberry Festival!

We sent our Fall Fest and Christmas Fest floats down the parade route at the 2009 Blueberry Festival. We’re thrilled that our Fall float won both the Judge’s and President’s award this year! Matt, our face of fall, helped us celebrate and carry the trophies.

Our floats are a taste of how we decorate our farm for Fall Fest and Christmas Fest. Many of the decorations you saw on our floats are hand-crafted and will be used at the farm during our own festivals.

Mark your calendars: the opening weekend for Fall Fest is September 26th. The Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off and Studebaker car show are on September 27th.

Looking Forward to Christmas Fest 2009

Is it too early to begin thinking about Christmas? Not if you’re Hensler Nursery! Even though we’re gearing up for the opening day of Fall Fest, we’re still hard at work planning for Christmas Fest which begins the day after Thanksgiving.

We’ve worked hard over the last few years to raise a great crop of Christmas trees for the 2009 season. You won’t be disappointed when you and the family ride the horse drawn wagon out to the field to select your Christmas tree. We’re also planning on great custom wreath designs, kissing balls, crosses and grave pillows. In the Christmas barn you’ll find a new selection of Fontanini items this year, so check our website as the holiday draws near for new items and special promotions.

In the meantime, did you know that Hensler’s is on Facebook? It’s another way for you to keep up to date with everything going on at our farm and connect with other people who enjoy coming out to Hensler’s.

How We Grow Our Trees

Each summer we send a team of Hensler’s staff out into the tree fields to shape and contour our Christmas trees. The members of our team use a light touch to bring out the best shape and enhance the natural beauty of the trees.

This summer, we took a few videos of Joe hard at work using a long shearing knife and a little artistry to prepare our trees for Christmas Fest. As you’ll see in the video, it’s a lot of hard work but it’s time well spent once the families take the horse drawn wagon out to the field to select their Christmas tree.

Getting Ready for the 2009 Blueberry Festival Parade

Labor Day morning is quickly approaching and we’re so excited to send two floats to the Marshall County Blueberry Festival Parade. We’ve decorated each float to match the theme of our own festivals, one for Fall Fest that begins September 26th and the other for Christmas Fest which kicks off the day after Thanksgiving.

The talented team at Hensler’s had one mission this parade season: to take our floats over the top. Our staff spent weeks planning and assembling float designs we can’t wait to drive down the Blueberry Festival parade route.

Here’s a preview of the Fall Fest float you’ll see at the Blueberry Festival as we took it for a spin around the farm. We’ve filled it with a cascading waterfall of petunias, a mechanical waving scarecrow on the back, real blueberry plants and handmade cutouts for the children on our float to peek through and greet the crowd along the parade route. Can’t wait to see you there!

Video: Wagon Rides out to the Pumpkin Patch

Buy a ticket and take advantage of our horse-drawn wagon rides out to the pumpkin patch! Each weekend visitors of Hensler’s Fall Fest enjoy selecting and picking pumpkins from our field. We have plenty of pumpkins left that are perfect for displaying or carving into jack-o-lanterns.

Find out more about all of the activities you and the family will enjoy when you attend Fall Fest at Hensler Nursery.
