Update: We have the list of winners from the 2009 Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off and photos from the competition. These pumpkins were all delightfully monstrous and we thought of them all as winners. Christy Harp of Massilon, Ohio, claimed victory with a pumpkin weighing-in at 1236 pounds. We are so thrilled that we were able to host this event for the Indiana Pumpkin Growers Association. Thanks to all that participated and helped make the day special.
Members from the Indiana Pumpkin Growers Association are coming to Hensler's to weigh their giant gourds. Last year's weigh-off proved they're all very talented in growing some hefty pumpkins, but only one can be declared the winner.
Tipping the scale and taking the grand prize at last year's contest at Hensler's was Terry Marchand with a pumpkin weighing in at an unbelievable 1,346 lbs.
All of our other activities will be up and running. You can take horse-drawn tram rides to the pumpkin patch to pick your own pumpkins. And you'll also enjoy the fall decor we have on sale like hand-crafted items, mums and gourds.
By the way, here's a cool pumpking growers fact: Starke County residents, Phyllis and Roger Howard, have the state record for the largest pumpkin at a magnificent 1,436 lbs!
Registration is handled by the Indiana Pumpkin Growers Association and begins at 10 a.m. The top 10 winners will receive a cash award.
Participants of the pumpkin contest in the past have entered pumpkins that weigh between 170 lbs to nearly 1,000 lbs. Come out to Hensler's for this unique event to view these sizable pumpkins!
